When I Grow Up, Will Life Be The Same? Poem by Tequia Taylor

When I Grow Up, Will Life Be The Same?

When i grow up,
I wonder will people be more afraid to cry than they are to die
Will i be able to see a rainbow on a small filled sky
Will there be any trees alive if not how would we survive
Will they have a website at www.worldlifesupply?

If i got bored and hade nothing else to do
me aand my bestfriend went and built canoe
with water that use to be blue, be so polluted it give us the flu
Will $1,000 be enough for a shoe
Will i have to be just like you?
letting money make a decision for everything i do

Will the existence of dolphins and whales just be a story i tell
Starting with once upon a time, ending with where did we fail
Will the adults be the hammer or nail
Will the truth be illegal sale?
Will anyone be on the news for something other than killing
Will the drug dealers still be standing in front of those buildings?

Will they ever learn how to love, or still afraid of film?
Will tv's and music videos still raise America's children
Will innocent kids still be wrongfully touched
Will students go home in a bullet proof bus, or children had no one to trust
That's why this type thing hurts me as such
Cause i wonder will life be the same, when I grow up.
