What Truth Is There In You, Heart? Poem by Lesley Taylor

What Truth Is There In You, Heart?

What truth is there in you, heart?
see how you deceive
how you tell such clever lies
how you make your host believe
and what hope is there in you, heart
to conquer all the world
when the strongest men sent to the depths
to the graves are hurled.
What love is there in you, heart
with your egocentric views
you only beat into the world
as a self-indulgent muse
what life is there in you, heart
a countdown to defeat
what man is so insipient
their lives to you entreat?
Not I, to you, oh heart
no longer as a guide
for deeper love beats within
and in Him I reside.
