What is it you aspire to the young bloke said to me
We all have our aspirations I could not disagree
Though him I could not answer since of late I've lost the desire
To wish for something better and to greater things to aspire
To since time is catching up on me and the years have left me slow
Though I too had ambition a few decades ago
But we must act on our ambitions and on my ambitions I did not act
Success comes to those who try the hardest for it and that's stating a fact,
What is it you aspire to the young bloke to me said
And when I could not answer his question he merely shook his head
Saying 'twould seem you've lost ambition and that does seem a bit sad
In my young years I did not take the chances for success that I had
What do you aspire to one a third of my age to me did say
And that is the big question that I ponder on today.
