What Is It That The Fairies Do (Wandering The Woods At Night?) Poem by Mary Cieslak

What Is It That The Fairies Do (Wandering The Woods At Night?)

Rating: 5.0

To Dad, Mr. Steele, and Ms. Herrin. You helped write this poem, whether you know it or not.

What is it that the fairies do
Wandering the woods at night?
Are they those shadows behind you
Or whistling wind that bites?

Do they frolic amoung flowers
And skip a river's pebble?
Take flight upon the Witching Hour
Whisked away by the weather?

Where is it that the fairies go
When the moon is in full bloom?
Tending and tilling the fertile soil
Seeds deep within earth's womb?

Do they dance beneath the stars
For the dawn of each new season?
Where do they play mischievous games
For which there seems no reason?

How is it that the fairies know
Of Mother Nature's riches?
How can they know of where the rain
Showers the ground with kisses?

Are the fairies alive today?
Did they ever exist at all?
Or are the humans foolish for
Forgetting a fairy's call?

What is is that the fairies do
The world's eyes may never see.
But wandering the woods at night
Is where the fairies will be.
