What If? Poem by Brandon Park

Part 1
I watch you from a distance
Staring…
Wondering
What if?
What if I spoke to you?
What would you say?
What if I confessed my feelings?
Would you return them?
I wonder…

Part 2
As I continue my watching of you
You look my way
I look away embarrassed
But you stand up and begin to walk my way
What will happen?
I wonder…

Part 3
So as you walk my way
I wonder what will happen next
Will you come over and wonder why I was staring?
Most likely
You sit down next to me
I am embarrassed as hell
You speak in a soft voice
And say
I like you
What will happen?
I wonder…

Part 4
I sit there wondering what just happened
Then I get the courage to say
I like you too
And we sit there looking at each other
Then I get up the courage to say
Would you like to go out some time?
You pause for a moment
Then say
Sure.

Part 5
Suddenly everything blacks out.
Then…
It all ends up to have been a dream
I wake up thinking it was real
But sadly
No
So I start my daily routine
And I get on the bus
Then we get to your stop
You get on
Beautiful as ever
And I just sit there
And wonder
What if?
