What I Mean When I Say 'I Love You' Poem by GERALD SAIDI

What I Mean When I Say 'I Love You'

There is no way
I can say 'I love you'
And sway from what I lay
Into your ears
But i mean that:
You were not accountable to me
Before I met you in love
So I cannot judge
Your past
And in any event
I am not here to probe
Into your past
Therefore
Your past mistakes
Have no place
In my heart
Be that as it may
I am not your censor
I am not a tweezer
To pluck away your faults
Nor a scissors
To cut off your indiscretions
And i am not an electric jug
To boil you to perfection
You are best as you are!

I am not here
To take you for sport
But I mean that:
I will live with you as you are
I will not change you
I will let you speak out
Your mind
I will give you a forum
To know yourself more
You can chide me
In any way
And lash out any words
You feel like spewing
You can express dissatisfaction
In any way
For as long as
Its what you feel
You can hurtle any good or ugly
Words in emotions
For as long as
Its what you want to express
I am not here to argue
With what you believe
And i will not quarrel
To thwart your reasoning
Or block you from pursuing
What you desire with your heart

But when i say 'I love you'
I am telling you
That you are the one
I can stand for
And still stand by
As well as to stand with
Through knuckled realities
Through muddled circumstances
Through untold moments
And I am not there to tell you
Where you should be heading
But take you where you ought to be
And enjoy every way you are
For that is the import
Of my affection, endearment and care for you!
