What Happens Next Poem by Tabitha Lane

What Happens Next

Lying on my bed,
Putting my hands over my ears

Trying to drown out the loud noises,
Turning my music up as high as it can go

Dad wants a divorce,
Mom already has the papers

My little brother cries,
Running up to his room

Knocking on his door,
Still crying

I open the door,
“What is going to happen to us? ” he asks

Thinking to come up with an answer,
Silence...
