Were It Now For U.S. Poem by Leonard McGee

Were It Now For U.S.

Rating: 5.0

If things were as black and white as they convey
Subprime borrowers would still have a place to stay
and President Obama would have a lot less gray

But there were countless backroom deals and slights of hand
Involving everything from the price of oil to protected land
There were millions of causes, but only one real effect
Which was to add trillions to the national debt

So many things got smoothed over, covered up, or distorted
Until only a tea parting fool believes the truth got reported
Even Obama’s hands changed from salmon pink to cherry red
From all those times he woke up in a flea ridden bed
Throwing open doors of truth and consequences to debate
Proving their was nothing he would refuse to manipulate

Now the winners are still rewriting our nations history
There can be no such thing as long term memory
So only the wealthy can afford to concentrate beyond line of sight
Shooting down any legislation that might sound right
Attacking every public policy that even seems just
As if it would be a them, were it not for us
