Well I Remember Poem by Raymond Farrell

Well I Remember

Rating: 5.0

Well I remember
The harsh reality
That followed her diagnosis
The rapid decline in energy
The wasting away of flesh
Until just a gaunt
Cachexic figure remained
And all within 5 months.

I rose early Thanksgiving Day
To prepare the meal
Perhaps, her last chance
To have Thanksgiving dinner
With her folks
At 10: 30 in the morning
I checked in on her
She said, I'll get up for lunch
At 11: 30 I spoke to her softly
From the doorway
There was no responce
I went and knelt at the bedside
And gently nugged her
And then I began to shake her
Sobbing her name uncontrollably
Realizing she was gone.

Now, Thanksgivings come and go
It is easy to remember the day
But it is not so easy
To be thankful.

Ripping at my heart as I read these words of pain upon pain to lose the shared love, dreams in words unspoken! Between each line. Excellent write!
