Welcoming The New Year Poem by RIC BASTASA

Welcoming The New Year

no firecrackers of course
not much meat
not much sugar
not many friends
just a few of the chosen
ones

a silent evening
some prayers
a thanksgiving
more of gratitude
than fears
a drink to this and that
finger foods and
nuts and an orange
beside a fuji
apple

above all
one thing is certain
we are still alive
as we step
to 2021
