We Create Our Own Fear Poem by Francis Duggan

We Create Our Own Fear

In a world racked by violence we create our own fear
Of bombings, shootings and killings is all that we hear
In Lands where they practice an eye for an eye
In Cities after darkness where curfews apply
And anyone after dark caught out of doors on the street
By the soldiers and police will be arrested and beat
And for the crimes of the minority the law abiding must pay
And more violence than ever before in the World of today
The poor and the hungry the dispossessed and downtrod
And people going to war in the name of their God
And some to kill others for their own God will die
Of a place in his kingdom they believe the lie
And due to a strange love for their God those different to them they hate
And in a World ruled by fear our own fear we create.
