We Cannot Be Too Selfish Poem by Francis Duggan

We Cannot Be Too Selfish

Rating: 4.0

We cannot be too selfish if we take we too should give
And truer words have not been said than to live and let live
And if you don't like a person don't run that person down
As bad mouthing one you do not like will not win you renown.

We canot be too selfish to everyone apply
How many innocent people in needless conflict die
I am not a church going person but I do remember still
From school years Moses Fifth Commandment the words 'Thou shalt not kill'.

We cannot be too selfish but sad to say we are
And selfishness as we all know can often lead to war
And that I too can be selfish I hardly can deny
For I'm one of the millions obsessed with me, myself and I.

We cannot be too selfish if to our higher self we are true
But the unselfish people are sad to say too few
If you are poor though helpful not many wish to know of you
For they judge you by your bank account and not by the good you do.

We cannot be too selfish those words are easily said
Since money speaks all languages is drummed into our head
And old Jack that wise old fellow who more than seven decades can recall
Says we've never been further from a 'fair go for all'.
