Way Back Then Words by Angela Khristin Brown

Do you remember way back in the day
Spin the bottle, stick ball and freeze tag hey
Yeah, I can remember it way back then
Braiding hair, slam books, street dance offs amen!
I remember way back then, yeah, we had prayer
Playing house, water balloon fights, truth or dare!
Oh yeah, I remember when the sun went down
Our first kiss, hanging out, holdin' hands in town!

Making the most out of little, we did as kids do
Cause way back then, things were different too
It did not matter about the color of my skin
It's what came from our hearts, where we begin
Because we were alike and what mattered most
Cheers to each other's company, let's have a toast

I wish we were kids again and back in school
I remember fast cars and dream houses with pools!
Kango hats, bamboo ear rings, jelly bean shoes
GQ fashion, Stacy Adams, earrings in left ear was cool!
break dancing, pop locking and new school moves
fun on the dance team breaking records number one
Started new trends, yeah, we had a lot of fun!
Ill-in to hip hop of DMC, and Moe Dee
Salt and Pepper too, are you feelin' me?

Making the most out of little, we did as kids do
Cause way back then, things were different too
It did not matter about the color of my skin
It's what came from our hearts, where we begin
Because we were alike and what mattered most
Cheers to each other's company, let's have a toast

Friends spending time reminiscing memories
About how we got along and did things freely
We were in it together, through thick and thin
Shared dreams of becoming somebody within
We wanted to make a better world to live in
You and I felt the same, lived the same, not in vain
Made some mistakes, needed a shoulder to cry on
You were on your way, you told me to be strong
In that I was never alone, because you cared
When no one else did, we were a team and shared
Clasping my head in my hands, I cry, looking back
I replied, 'I remember' and that's a fact

Making the most out of little, we did as kids do
Cause way back then, things were different too
It did not matter about the color of my skin
It's what came from our hearts, where we begin
Because we were alike and what mattered most
Cheers to each other's company, let's have a toast
