Was It Only Love? - A Poem For My Husband Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Was It Only Love? - A Poem For My Husband

Was it only love
that enabled us to live in togetherness
over those long thirty-three years of life on this planet?

Was it only love
that made us happier each day
no matter how full or empty were our pockets
no matter how huge were our struggles and victories?

Was it only love
that made us walk in tolerance
towards those who had profound jealousy against us?

Was it only love
that made us cross many bridges of rivalry
without any fears or apprehensions?

Was it only love
that made us hold each other for comfort and consolation
when our seas of joy suddenly turned into storms of sorrows?

Was it only love
that made us sit together
and enjoy a beer over the week-end
when tired were our minds and memories?

Was it only love
that made us make a child of our kind
so full of grace and gentleness?

Was it only love
that you held my hand
and asked me to live with you and love you till the very end?

Was it only love
that made us walk together
all the lanes of prosperity and disparity with calmness?

Was it only love
that made us live those entire years together
and time kept vanishing without us even knowing it?

Was it only love
that we still kiss each other like the first time
but feel no passion but a greater devotion to each other?

Was it only love
that I still want you to hold me
and I want to see you first thing in the morning when I wake up?

Was it only love
that we traveled together all the journeys of life
and never lost the respect and dedication we have for each other?

Was it only love
that God chose you to love me and me to love you
though our thoughts never matched our reasoning
but our hearts had the same score of passion?

Was it only love
that makes me breathe
when I hear your heartbeats?

Was it only love
that will stop my heartbeats
when you will stop to breathe?
