War Weapons Poem by Rajesh Thankappan

War Weapons

Rating: 4.0

Peace can be shred to billion burning bleeding pieces
In an age where sophisticated weaponry holds the rein
Bombs, machine guns and armoury of destructive armaments
Could slash our psyche and flesh to inflict unimaginable pain.

Yet don’t we view our country’s combat weapons and roaring warplanes
With a chest puffed up with unmistakable military pride!
Those sophisticated artillery, tanks, missiles and military equipment
That we flaunt in an arms parade with jaunty strides.

But if we could just imagine how these advanced weaponry
Could possibly kill or maim men, woman and innocent children
People whom we would otherwise embrace into our homes
Could be mowed down just like weeds from the garden.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Is it not an irony that peace is held to ransom by modern sophisticated weaponry of mass annihilation and yet peace is ensured by its very presence?

Yes it's an irony that peace is offended as well as defended through amassing weapons......Rajeshji.......a very well thought out concept scripted wonderfully.......10

I truly agree with your sentiments..... But..., Unfortunately it has become a must for any nation to hoard weapons in their armoury! When even unsuspecting nations make a sporadic and lightning attack, we should have something in our stock to defend ourselves! A great write!

That is a very big paradox. To have Ashoka Chakra on the flag and parade weaponry very much under it. I recall a line from Mahakavi 'P' here: The one who has committed a massacre receives the veer chakra! Good poem.
