War Of The Worlds Poem by Eric Paeplow

War Of The Worlds

Fairies and elves and gnomes by the score
Live in the shadows, in their silent secret world
Spending their time, living their lives
At peace with the world, its beauty, sublime

While the age of man, ran through the hourglass of time
As the grains of sand drained, so it seems, did their twisted minds
Plowing and paving, building one more roof, one more wall
On their endless quest, to rule the earth forevermore

While the fairies and elves, and gnomes by the score
Saw the oncoming threat, coming closer to their door
The signal sent out, the great council called
To address the issues at hand, and their future foretold

And while their discussions went on, heated or not
The age of man it seemed, could not be shortened or stopped
Another fairies field paved, another gnomes garden, gone
If something wasn't done soon, their world would be lost

So the great council debated, they hemmed and they hawed
While flapping their lips and doing as politicians do
Playing their fiddles, while watching their world burn
And in the end, their discussion were for naught

For while they loudly debated
Their war of the worlds

Was lost…
