War Poem by Gary Bernard

War

Rating: 5.0

'War'
The ego kindles the fire
The shallow character then fuels it
The delusion of grandeur propels it - now unstoppable!
The wailing and dying repulse most that see the devastation
The somberness of the funerals slows it for a few moments but no words can console
The aftermath never fulfills the glorified desires
The peace won eventually fails even as the victors rejoice
Believing their God was with them
The ego surfaces once more while
More of the best and brightest go to slaughter again
Humankind never sees their folly
