Wandering Stars Poem by Ola Joseph Kolawole

Wandering Stars

WANDERING STARS (Jude 13)

They are fearfully and wonderfully made
Perhaps on a “weekend”
They are too loaded with illumination…
They “know” because they “understand”
They might not be seen in the day light,
But they sparkle and dazzle in darkness…
Epitomes of Beauty and Splendour –
That is who they are!

The secret of their beauties is not far fetched;
Their being 'wonderful” is not their strength:
They arrange themselves around the sun
Each one maintaining its rank
They “stand still” about the sun
And the ceaseless glory of the sun robs on them
Themselves being luminous though…
And in the night when you can’t even see the sun,
The light of the sun shines through them
- Those are stars… as in STARS! ! !

But for wandering stars…
They are once here, and later there;
They travel in search of a better photon
Where they will receive more radiation than their equals
They traverse from galaxy to galaxy,
The more they travel, the less they shine.
They keep searching,
But never coming to the knowledge of the truth
They just want to be seen everywhere

Ask their maker,
And He will tell you what He told me
As concerning the reason for making them at first
…That they should be with Him
That He might send them…

But the wandering stars have reversed the dogma
They want to be sent without being incubated…
And indeed they still shine
But their glory fades away day by day
And as they keep traveling,
They are bound to receive scars…

Oh that this understanding will never leave our hearts
That the master needs just a prerequisite…
“One thing is needful…
Even to abide under the shadows of the master’s wings”
Till we all come to the Unity of Faith;
God help us. Amen.
