Walk To Remember Poem by Yada Richie

Walk To Remember

It was the definition of make or break,
Everything had led him to this moment.
A lone thought of his lavish life of luxury left behind,
Was extinguished as soon as it surfaced.
He had left wealth for a richness no money could buy.
Pure determination, hard work and Cominos had got him this far.
Every dollar calculated to the T.
All accounted for, not a dime to spare.
He felt the plastic between his fingers, before hastenly tucking it away.
Alone again, he checked his laces and did what he did best.
Set off with nothing but sheer will.

With a 'clink' and a raised glass,
A voice that emanated pride filled the room.
A warmth exploded within him,
As he saw a hundred eyes moisten.
But it was 'their' dry eyes that struck him.
Yet, even the disappointment in their indifference
Could not cloud the happiness engulfing him.
It was all his.
His dream.
His struggle.
His success.
