Victory Unknown Poem by Anne Marie V. Kennedy

Victory Unknown

Rating: 5.0

Oh how I see your pain
And feel your every hurt
You knew but never dared explain
Still buried in the dirt

You touch me like a sunrise
Bringing with it a new day
Free from fear, free from anger
And unwilling to betray

You took so much, I know
The legacy it would leave behind
Yet you awoke to face another day
And you did not question why

Instead you knelt to pray
To a God you could not trust
A God without a face
Who had left you in the dust

To you He was Almighty
Yet you never saw His grace
Alone you daily worshipped
Believing just in case

Your wounded heart abhors me
Your purest heart adores me

Yet of love you cannot speak
And the solace that you seek

Cannot be found alone
Though you protest with every bone

You are my kindred spirit,
My angel from on High
I see your holy spirit
Something money cannot buy

I love you like a river
That flows and flows and flows
I love you like a giver
That grows and grows and grows

You are everlasting
My friend, my man, my life
No matter what words are spoken
Someday I’ll be your wife

You do not know the answers
To the questions that you ask
Just try to trust the river
And know this, too, shall pass

You are like a sunflower
Shining in the sun
Knowing not its glory
Denying entry to the One

You are like a treasure
Who knows not its own worth
Who chases after rainbows
Instead of digging in the earth

A prisoner you aren’t
Yet you wrap yourself in chains
Imagining you deserve it
For the sins He long ago forgave

Tender is His mercy
He knows your every pain
For that you are given Freedom
Your prayers were not in vain

My beloved Husband
I put you on the Throne
For love cannot be broken
Nor His covenant undone

For you I would do anything
I’d wipe your tears away
If only you’d be happy
There’s no price I would not pay

Remember how you told me
About your hopes and dreams
I have not forgotten
Though silent, I hear your screams

I will never leave you
To this I can attest
Unless my Lord decrees it
I’ll remain ‘till my dying breath

We do not know the reason
For our staying true
No matter what the season
You need me and I need you

Summer turns to autumn
Winter turns to spring
Life is so uncertain
Yet to the past we cling

We never know the reasons
Or the meaning of our songs
But we keep on singing
Through our weakness, we are strong

Fear will not defeat me
Nor will your rebukes
I will keep on loving
‘Till your shackles are removed

God has put it in my heart
To stay and see this through
Though I can’t explain it
He keeps leading me back to you

Take this in your heart, love
And make a leap of faith
For He had always promised
To lead us not astray

Though we are not perfect
He loves us just the same
He feels our woes and sorrows
He knows us all by name

For you He gave His body
For you He sacrificed
You think you are unworthy
Yet you’re precious beyond price

Until you die to this life
You cannot be reborn
You must wake up at midnight
And wait until the dawn

But when the Spirit beckons
Do not turn away your face
Have the faith and courage
To rely upon His grace

Blessed are the broken-hearted
God gives mercy to the weak
You can never be defeated
If it is Jesus Christ you seek

In Him we put our trust
We live by faith alone
We cannot serve two Masters
Out of ashes, the phoenix arose

Let us take a leap of faith
For our lives we do not own
The risk we take in loving
Will reap us victory unknown.
