Veronica Poem by oluchukwu ifechukwu

Veronica

You have only to ponder
that of all that immense number in the motley crowd
straining and shoving
purely at the peril of some soldierly whip
(really the lenient version of the sufferer's
very burden falling quite randomly
on your indifferent Simon's back)
for even a mere glimpse of his blood-bathed face
only a Veronica -and a her only - could collapse
the unbreakable soldierly barricade
and all the heedless manful brutalism thereof
carrying in a flimsy flippant veil
triumphantly away in the event
all the battered wholesomeness
of the crowd-coveted crimsoned countenance

That of all that impeccably strategizing
variously over-squadded army
versed in scheming and war-strategems
only a Delilah - and a her only - could device
a such offhandedly efficacious, colossal confounding
for the awesome Samsonic-terror
upon its eventual material emergence
hoisting on a preposterously levitous blade in the event
all the hitherto dreadful dreadlocks:
elusive index of his peerless might

To know that yea! your pen
might be mightier than the sword
but the brutish bulge in your pants?
not even a synergy of the sword
and your pen can surpass that!
