Valentine Poem by Josh Mitteldorf

Valentine

Feeling you, I touch feeling
Touching you, I feel touched
Knowing you, I know knowing
No noetic notions know such.

And liking you is lovely
As loving you is like
wise profound and full -
Happiness happening.

Deeper and deeper dependence
Over and overwhelmed
Clothed in cloaks of cleverness
I clamp the closeness closed.

Feeling you, I touch feeling
Touching you, I feel touched
Sheltering you, I am sheltered
From feeling too strong or too much.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
1976
I was living in my head...
'Incorrigible, ' Marsha said.
She left me; I was gripped with fear.
With this poem, I kept her one more year.
