Useless Genius Poem by P K Joy

Useless Genius

For many years I’ve been dreaming
all through my wakeful time,
Till you shook me up and asked
what’s the use of every dream.
You asked me to see if they are abstractions
pregnant with achievable objectivity
And whether I can convert each of them
into tangible reality.

I couldn’t answer your questions soon
for I had never ever thought of them.
Your questions took me to a different sphere
to subject to tests my every dream!
Without waiting for my answers you said,
“while some people call you a ‘genius’,
The majority possessing mature thinking
says your dreams are absolutely useless,
For they are devoid of practical wisdom
for turning them to the benefit of the world.
A genius who does no good to fellowmen
is a non-entity for the world, indeed.”
