Untitled No.33 Poem by Byron Headrick

I don’t know why
But all of a sudden
All
The poets
Believe
In God,
Salvation
The blood of Christ
And free expression.
(EXCEPT
ME)
I must confess
That I am not convinced.
Confused?
Yes.

Hoping for more
Seeing less
Now
Don’t take offense
You may
Not understand
How much
That I want
To believe
In Our Father’s
Soothing love,
Paradise
Achieved through persecution
A reason
To keep picking
The pieces up
A helping hand
For the weight
Of my sins.

I have
Read
That no
Man
Can
Approach
God unless
Drawn
By God
And
I have read
That
God is love
I have read
The words of Christ
The acts of Buddha
Mohammad’s verse
I have read
Books for answers
And received
Only questions.
I have witnessed
The cruel intentions
Of man
And
I am sure
That I have held
The devil’s hand.

You know, it’s
Funny
How easily
To understand
Sin
Evil
Those concepts Satanic
Compared
To the light
Witnessed
In the lives
Of friends.

How
Could they
Get there
From here?
Washed Clean
Filled with love
Forgiven
Thankful
Yes
I wonder
How
Could they
Get there
From here?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm….

Is this
A poem
Or
A prayer?
