The guest - he sleeps soundly.
The host - he sleeps soundly
as the poet-friend quietly moves about.
The macaw - he speaks from the bathroom door.

The guest - he slips into the bathroom.
The host - he continues to snore
as the poet-friend makes a pot of coffee.
The macaw is bored and wants to be returned to his cage.

The guest - he returns to his slumber.
The host - he sneaks into the bathroom
as the poet-friend puts the bird back into his cage.
Poet-friend envisions the macaw making a nose dive
toward the unexpected guest on the mattress in the livingroom
or suddenly deciding to do his major plop of the day
on the guest, as they pass.

The guest - he seems to have returned to his sleep.
The host - he slips back into his bed
as the poet-friend drinks the coffee and listens to the rain.
The macaw - he bangs around his toys and dumps out his toys - looking for attention.

The guest - he continues to sleep.
The host - he continues to sleep
as the poet-friend wishes they’d get up so he can do his noisy chores.
The macaw - he’s calm now, but still wants attention.

The guest - he finally awakens.
The host - he still sleeps
as the poet-friend gets the courage to start quietly banging around himself.
The macaw - he begins to say hello, and the guest replies in a similar voice.

The guest - he talks to the bird while reading.
The host - he STILL sleeps
as the poet-friend finishes the coffee and begins the day.
