Under An Indigo Sky Poem by David Wood

Under An Indigo Sky

Rating: 5.0

How the evening fades to dusk,
The slow drift of the tides as they
Kiss soft evening sand.

Gulls cry over limestone rock
Their scavenging over for another
Day, their echoes fill a darkening sky.

A star blinks with a rude awakening,
Then another and another as the day
Ebbs slowly to nights soft shadows.

Whispers of a breeze sigh gently
Slowly giving way to an indigo sky
Dismembered footsteps left behind.

A child crying I cannot see fills my
Ears. A burning noise demanding
Attention under a waning crescent

Moon just over the darkening horizon.
Looking down casting its nightly smile
Between high drifting wispy clouds.

A stampede of cars on the nearby
Road, their lights searching in the
Near distance heading to dark homes.

The silence of the night is broken as I
Ponder and feel the night as it spreads
It's sleepiness until morning takes over.

A masterfully written piece. Poignant, virtuous, soft and descriptive.
