Un-Shackled Poem by Demar Henry

Un-Shackled

Captivity I despise;
Those are the words that leave your mouth
But it is still your reality
For you are shackled from the inside-out

For freedom we strive
But the mind is like a bee-hive
Abuzz-busy
Like the heart of the city
Abuzz with racist thoughts
Harboring Feelings of self-pity

Self-pity…
The concrete shoes that pulls us down into the lake of poverty
Submerged in the reality of yesterday
Must we drown ourselves in the sorrows experienced by our ancestors
Or use them as a life jacket.
The propeller on our boat
Keep afloat and moving towards tomorrow with greater hope.
