Tybee Island Poem by Dylan McCarthy

Tybee Island

I.
The eddy fluctuates,
punctures the shore
with vibrant blades
of brisk seafoam,
slowly plunges
in oscillating floods
of invisible chroma,
and basks
under skies dripping
with amber gleams.

Vanished in surf,
the seaweed wreath,
a beachgoers curio,
beheld by killers
of a cruel sea.
Aquamarine voices
and Aquarian driftwood
entwined by limbs
of a distorted dock.

Crashing sky on the sun
with polar dreams
evermore in genesis
of the weary traveler's agenda.
With skiffle song
and amusing monologue
we eclipse
boisterous seagull screams.

II.
Venture cirrus pastures in the equinox,
a lair of shrieking zephyr
hosts the zeppelin flame.
Anchors scar sunlight
under cloister clouds.
A tremble of grief walks across the cubist frame
of hearts distorted in potent shapes.
The vertex collapsed upon ocean walls
and dawning capes.

A metamorphosis of bent rainbow streaks
crosses rivers to adjacent spectral rain.
Icons in the strike of regal holidays
rest about the ghosts of molten candle strain
shining scenic upon Neptune waters.
Azure waves crash on the vertex
of the sight of abbey daughters.

Forming sacred on
blistering sands golden with
equanimity.
Onyx rocks upon
gilded strands of wanderlust
and placidity.

Opus fanfares laud ancient words and themes.
Jupiter maelstrom furrows across
the ornate daylight,
Auburn blaze of wind
pillows at mountainside
and copperhead slithers across the dunes of white,
and prisms scattering the colors.
Vertex collapsed upon ocean walls
and twilight mothers.
Solitude of lying airwaves
in the rivers striking cascade
at zenith of toppling caves.

III.
Planks creak upon piers
of scrambling tourists
taking to circus bolero
and ferris wheel aura.
Night unveils the fear
of jostling tides
dragging victims
and absorbing life
forever beneath miles of indigo.
