Since there is a Tennis Open being played now, I felt it was my poetic duty to write a poem about tennis. Once again, I have put a cat in my poem. In fact, there are two little kittens who miss their mother very much.
Two Tennis Tabbies
For the Tennis Open, which is held every year
I got tickets because this year it was quite near
I was to meet a lady friend for a tennis date
But, I saw two little kittens crying by the gate
"Oh my, my! You cute little kittens" said I
"What sorrow makes you want to cry? "
Both replied in severe distress
"The horror! One could never guess
Cat gut is sustainable and elastic
It is so much better than plastic
Now they have a ball in there
And they want to whack it
So they grabbed our mother—
And strung her in the racket! "
To this day, I can't believe that when I was a teenager I used to play with a tennis racquet that was strung with cat gut. Jim, your cute poem has sent shivers down my back. That aside, a great poem!
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I love cats and I had a few of them as pets. And I know that cat-gut is used to string the tennis racket. Interesting poem, with the kittens telling us how they lost their mom…5*
I doubt if it is used any more in tennis rackets. My mission is to get people to laugh. Thank you.
