Twenty One Poem by Ted Middleton

Twenty One

Today is the day for rejoicing
All the worry and time was worthwhile
Its the rise of the next generation
Behold as the proud parents smile
From all of your ancestors passing
From family and friends all around
There's a future with love and best wishes
For you with your ear to the ground
So as all of your goodness becomes you
And charming is what others see
In twenty one street you've the world at your feet
Happy birthday from all and from me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem for an old friends' daughter (Jamie) on her 21st birthday bash. There's something very special about becoming twenty one, quite apart from the poem someone takes the time to write to honour the occasion and the fact it only ever happens once in a lifetime....
