Turning 60 Poem by Vanessa Hughes

Turning 60

Rating: 5.0

Yesterday, I turned 60
Am I now an elderly
'Cos someone needs to show me
How to grow old gracefully

When I started on my journey
Back in '62
I never dreamt I'd be here so quickly
And I'm not sure what to do

Should I behave in a certain manner
Should my treats be scones with jam
Instead of wine and beer
And the occasional wee dram

Am I allowed to lose my filters
And not worry what's right and wrong
After all, if I'm group Elderly
It could be my swansong

I'll take my cue from others
Rely on folk to tell me
If what I'm doing is not akin
With someone approaching Eldie

So if you see me behaving
Not like an elderly should
Just tap me on the shoulder
And whisper 'that's not good'

I will probably ignore you
And carry on regardlessly
But at least I can add it to a list
Of how I need to be

Very lovely poem. Made me laugh but most importantly made me respect you. Thanks for being here and still sharing with us young folks. Your type is truly rare.
