Truth Poem by James Tyler

Truth

The breeze on my face,
And the sun on my skin
You know it’s a race
To be the first one in

The sky’s pearly blue
And the curve of your spine
Your rosy red hue
And the thought that your mine

The water feels cold
But the sun warms us after
To me you are gold
And bright as your laughter

The birds sing a song
As we play a game
The winner gets a kiss
And the loser gets the same

Trees sway with the wind
Now a turbulent ride
The weather’s gone bad
And we head inside

I get you a drink
And I find you in tears
You tell me a secret
And unleash your fears

The tests just returned
And the signs are bad
They say you have weeks
I’m instantly sad

We live with a passion
As if today was the end
The truth is quite scary
You can’t seem to mend

The time seems to slow
And I capture your face
You look so peaceful
Inside your case
