Tree Patriot Poem by Pedro Cescon

Tree Patriot

My roots, my grandgrandparents brought from so far,
My stem, my grandparents grew in this land,
My leaves, my parents nurished on this ground,
All of them under this same sun,

To be patriot is not to wage war against neighboring trees,
To be patriot is not to reject new residents,
To be patriot is not to be blind about our home's flaws,
To be patriot is not to brag about our house's goods,

To be patriot, is to sow our best seeds upon our earth,
In hopes we can honor the effort put in our branches,
By those that vowed to help us grow more beautiful flowers
