Tree Poem by William Kruse

Tree

I
sit here
and try to think
of all the beautiful
symbols that other poets
have found when they looked
at a tree and I feel that I, too should
feel something comparable to what they did,
but all
I see
is a
tree.

Personally, I have a hard time imagining that those 'other poets' sat before a tree, looking for symbols, meaning, poetry, anything exactly. I gently suggest, therefore, that your opening lines may have been your undoing. : P Stop trying... but do keep writing. The former gets in the way of the latter sometimes, I think. Your Tree, is your own - which is, to my way of thinking, far better than redundant symbolism any day. Christine
