Travesty Of War Poem by Ronan Gough

Travesty Of War

The nukes are ready,
Guns upright and at the steady.

The conductors eyes are sharp,
His mind focused on the target,
Aloft in the dark.

The troops stand in a straight line, the clock strikes nine.
No one noticed, no one ever told us,
That it would come to this,
Death looms up ahead, ready to give the final kiss,
Life as it is will be missed.

Women and children, fearing for their men’s lives, they feel pain,
Of a hundred knives.

Not a living creature is to be seen or heard,
It all seems quite absurd.
Man has lost it,
And all we can do, is wait, and watch, and sit.

The missiles launch through the air,
All we can do is stand in awe and stare.
The soldiers like neck in neck, war BREAKS OUT.

The Conductor gives a shout,
“Bombs away! ” but not for long.
I never thought it would come to this, never saw the day.

An announcer, clears his throat, and prepares the speech, given to him by his superiors.
“N. Korea have launched the nuclear missiles across the land. No one thought they’d dare.
But, I say we difficulty, the inevitable has happened.
We all have been shocked, and all should wait in pair.
Our time is drawing to a close, such a beauty withers, like a rose.
Living life has been wasted, and we are soon to have radiation tasted, our air has been poisoned, and we are soon to die, prepare to see the end, from me, goodbye.”

I never thought this could happen. I kneel and say my prayers to God, oh the travesty of nuclear war.
I push away my tears.

Up above, Heaven looks down on us, and makes way, to open up its door,
For what is in store.

Oh the travesties of Nuclear War.
