Train With No Wheels Poem by Alex Lane

Train With No Wheels

Where did my wisdom go?
I was chasing it
In the woods
On the roads
It sang to me
From under a stone
It came to me
From a telephone
I understood fear
In the face of failure
On the midnight train
With a master de-railer
The gear drops south
Hearing warped metal squeal
Can you understand the fear
On the train with no wheels?

But not I
Not I
So I hung up that phone
And started this song
The planning was right
The plan was wrong
The thing overlooked
Came on strong
I understood fate
How all roads led to here
If I had the choice
It was surely not clear
Clear enough for me
What was the right thing to feel?
How can I change my fate
On the train with no wheels?

But not I
Not I
Where did my wisdom go?
It got away from me
Through the rain
In the snow
It sang to me
From under a stone
It came to me
From a telephone
Where did my wisdom go?
