Tough Girl Poem by LaCicely Nicole

Tough Girl

Being the firstborn I came in the world tough
Surviving my upbringing in the projects was tough
Being raped as a virgin was more then tough
Being discriminated against was just as rough

Becoming the bum I used to see on the streets-tough
Going through a breakup was sure to be tough
Having no support was greater than tough
Going a pregnancy all alone was definitely tough stuff

My body being dragged on a freeway...unexplainably tough
The recovery was painfully tough
Going back to school after many years was frightfully tough
Expected to always be the 'tough girl'... I wasn't always so tuff

Raising two kids all alone...other mothers know just how tough
Expected to set examples for others, oh so tough
Pressures of life and all this struggle and strife, I HAVE to be tough
Now all is better.... I guess God said 'enough is enough'
