Tongues Of Love Poem by Gedion Onyango

Tongues Of Love

Now that you know
tell me
tell me softly and slowly
whisper to me smoothly
repeat when I ask
and stare at me joyously
tell me again and again
when we are walking
down the hill
or running up the mountain
please tell me
tell me in my ears
where no stranger may steal it
tell me secretly and lovingly
repeat when I twinkle
and smile when I nod

Now that you know
run with me
run swiftly and rhythmically
please run with me in the wind
do not stop when I ask
and stare at me joyously
so that I do not lag behind

Now that you know
sing to me
sing it softly and smoothly
please sing it with passion
dance to me
dance in secret
where no one sees us
dance to me softly and romantically
that no stranger can steal

Now that you know
carry me
carry me gently
and lift me above your head
stare at me from below
and winnow me in the wind
please winnow me joyously
and secretly
where no stranger can steal it!

Now that you know
sleep where I can see you
Please sleep smoothly
sleep staring at me
sleep smiling and soundly
sleep until morning
when I wake you up
sleep in secret
where no stranger can steal it
