To My Son [daughter] Poem by Elizabeth Jacqueline Mpanga

To My Son [daughter]

I never saw you
I never touched your soft skin
I never felt you
I never looked into your eyes

You never felt my love
Or touched my skin
You never felt me
You never looked into my eyes
Yet I still loved you

Though we will never meet,
I always carry you in my heart and mind
You are a part of me and me you
We are one

I never got to show you how much love I have
I never got to lift you when you fell
I never got to smile when you achieved
Yet am still so proud of you

I am sorry you never got to see the sun
Or the beautiful birds,
That sing ever so beautifully,
Or the flowers of the spring.

You never got to make friends
Or experience your first love
And heart break
All of which make us human

I wish I could turn back time
I would do things differently
I would fight for you
Give up my self for you

I hope you forgive me
Where ever you are
I was naïve and afraid
But still I loved you

I will forever keep you in my heart and mind
You are apart of me and me you
We are one
