To Janice From Her Dog Poem by Francis Duggan

To Janice From Her Dog

I'm Janice's dog and I belong to Janice and I go by what she say
She's my owner and possessor and her orders I obey,
She's my master and I'm her canine and I do what she ask me to do
And I like my lady owner and I think she likes me too.

Makes me wonder why she likes me as my once dark muzzle has turned to gray
And I am getting old and ugly and I have seen a better day
Still she needs me and she feeds me and she wants me by her side,
Makes me feel in ways important and gives me a sense of canine pride.

Last saturday I displeased my master and I fell foul of her tongue
And she scolded me for wrongdoing and her cutting anger stung
Told me she'd put me in dog's home, I felt frightened, I felt sad
But soon by her all was forgiven she's all good in her no bad.

Next day she showered me with affection her way of making up with me
And with her took me off to Shoreham off to Shoreham by the sea
She put me in front seat with her the front seat of her mazda car
It's a long way from Belgrave to Shoreham for a dog it seems quite far.

We lay on the beach together for two hours or maybe more
And we did not take leave of Shoreham till well after half past four
Made the journey back to Belgrave made a few stops on the way
And I have very happy memories of a very happy day.

I'm a dog and Janice is my master and to Janice I belong
Though sometimes she gets cranky with me If I happen to do wrong
Still I wouldn't change her for the World as she is beautiful and kind
And a better master than my owner Janice I could never wish to find.
