To Isabella Poem by David Smart

To Isabella

So many years since last I saw your face
And looked into the beauty of your eyes
And held your hand in mine in soft embrace
And heard the gentle softness of your sighs.
So many years since then have passed between.
Such pain and toil and hardship, sorrow too,
But in my mind at all times there has been
The image of your face to see me through.
You fill my soul, my heart, my ev'ry thought;
Each morning when I wake I think of you.
I close my eyes in sleep, so dearly bought;
You are beside me all the long night through.

While here, I never more will see your face.
You went before me to the Realm of Grace.
