To Big Dave Poem by Francis Duggan

To Big Dave

I hear that you feel happier Dave since Serge now work with Jim
And that you feel glad so very glad to have seen the back of him
You feel like one relieved of pain no farewell tears for Serge
So many times he'd driven you right to the anger verge.

It's true Dave you are an honest man and honest men are rare
And you could never be unkind to one who treat you fair
But for such a just and honest man I do find it quite sad
That you look on the race of man as sinister and bad.

You say that man the animal this Planet Earth destroy
Make bombs to kill his fellow man and with smoke pollute the sky
And that man pollute and kill and maim so happen to be true
But you cannot blame all of Mankind for the sins of the few.

I hear that you'd feel happier Dave if Adam did return
And that for his splendid company I've heard it said you yearn
But be happy with your blessings Dave you have young John and Lew
For they have a humorous streak in them and they can humour you.

I hear that you feel happier Dave since Serge has gone away
And for little Noel to do likewise you yearn to see that day
But I've met worse than Serge and Noel there's worse than those two there
For the World is large and wide and round and unreasonable people everywhere.
