To Be Who You Are Poem by ziyanda mbasa

To Be Who You Are

When your soul is bleeding,
When your tears are falling,
When you don’t know what to do you can only pray to your god.

When your heart is broken and you feel your life dying.
You die slowly while people are watching and you don’t know what to do.

You fly but your wings won’t let you
You crawl but your knees won’t allow you
What does one do to be who she is?
What does one do to live her life the way she wants?
What does one do to open her heart and love unconditionally?
What does one do?

When you know you are nothing but a shadow of someone else,
When you live a lie by choice because you can’t face the reality of being who you are
What does one do to claim her self?
To stick to what she believes in

To the world it seems the hardest thing is to be who you are?
When I tried to give my life a meaning
I taught my self that I am what I am and it took my orders and never even tried to protest because all I wanted was the peace within that I never found,
My soul cries out for a deeper meaning
It is screaming for the life I can never give,
It cries out loud and bleeds heavily for it feels so dead but all I want is all I want.
