'Tis An Addiction Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis An Addiction

'Tis an addiction I cannot get rid of for many years with me 'tis been this way
There is this need in me to keep on penning I have to keep on penning every day
The numbers of my doggerels keep growing one might say I've penned heaps of slipshod rhyme
Perhaps I well may end my days in prison if penning of doggerel becomes a crime
The poets are destined for the poets heaven and I'm bound for the afterlife of hell
No such a place as the poetasters heaven such is the price for penning doggerel
You well may pick out the flaws in my verses but of Nature's beauty allow me to sing
As I have never once stopped loving Nature great happiness to me she always bring
The god I love is everywhere around me the god I love happens to be a she
The mother of all life forms of the Planet that live on land in waterway and sea
She is the Earth Goddess known as Mother Nature I hear her wild birds singing every day
The life forms she sustain must return to her and in her bosom my remains will lay
My addiction I'm destined to live with if I told you I'd stop penning that would be a lie
I'm one of those born to be a poetaster and as a poetaster I'll surely die.
