Time, You'Re A Thief Poem by Rory Hudson

Time, You'Re A Thief

Time, you’re a thief
that comes by night
as we sleep heedless.

You break and you enter
and you steal our jewels,
You don’t even sell them,
you just throw them away,
it’s pure malice
like a computer virus
that spreads throughout the world.

I’d like to see you in court -
the verdict would not be hard to reach -
you’re as guilty as hell
and everybody knows it.

I’m not a violent man,
but in your case
I believe in the death penalty:
I’d like to see you swing
at the end of a rope.

I know that in the end
we’ll all be under the earth,
but if I could believe
that you would be there with me, dead at last,
then above the earth, for now,
I might find peace.
