Time Is Poem by Francis Duggan

Time Is

Time it is true becomes everyone's foe
The town's greatest athlete fifty years ago
His fastest speed only a slow walk today
He has lived his best years of him one can say
That time is everyone's master happens to be so
And eventually it becomes everyone's foe
The elite athletes of the present will one day walk slow
Time on the best of them eventually does show
The World champions and Olympic gold medallists in their own lives prime
Are born to life like all others for to lose out to time
Three score and ten years the average human life span
A few years more for a woman than it is for a man
Youth is a thing people cannot retain
But that time is our master as a truism remain.
