Tilted Kilt Poem by James P. Roberts

Tilted Kilt

Your body is a map
of labyrinthine ways.
I unwind a slender thread
to weave among colorful paths:
the tattoos that spell adventure
and danger for the unwary
explorer. I start from the depths
of your sparkling eyes, then descend
into a valley of stretched cloth
as shadows fall from your peaks.
Animals roam the flat plains
of your belly while I
lurk in the brush
in anticipation
of eventually emerging, safe at last,
beyond your delta
to the unsundered sea.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written for Dani, a waitress at the Tilted Kilt where I was attending a poet's conference. The poem has sparked several more 'Dani' poems and even a song. What tattoos can do to a guy!
