Tides Of Iniquity Poem by Pat Kunisch

Tides Of Iniquity

I stand on the shores, at the edge of great waters,
Watching the waves roll back and forth.
Each whitecap carries the hopes of the people,
Reaching out for all to open their doors.

The winds of war blow in the far distance,
As huge clouds of vapor spread discontent,
Across the firmament of God’s own creation,
Nations claiming each other’s ambitions to bend.

The birds of the air fly in all directions,
Seeking shelter to rest weary wings.
Their journey is lengthy and their voices are silent,
No time for songs to blanket the earth.

The Enemy plunders the hearts of the fragile,
The children, their laughter robbed from the womb.
Their mothers lie writhing in the pain of their labor,
As new birth becomes like a life from the tomb.

The battlefield appears around every corner,
Where habitants gather or just stroll on by.
Their minds are consumed with all kinds of visions,
Oblivious to fathom Iniquity’s tide.

The weights of heartbreak get piled on the balance.
The scales of justice bend till they break.
So heavy the burden, it cannot be measured.
The dreams of the future for all, is at stake.

The words of the righteous are thrown in the furnace,
Where the fire of anger burns hot and red.
What wisdom was offered, now turned to ashes
Collected and gathered to cover the dead.

I stand on the shores, at the edge of great waters,
Hearing the waves splash back and forth.
I pray God to answer the cries of the people,
“Will someone be left to open their door? ”
