This Our Human Nature Poem by D.W. Good

This Our Human Nature

So it goes our human nature
Thoughts fleeting thoughts repeating
Dances with pain and dealings with hunger
Self-inflicted or self-indulged

Hearts broken, bellies bulged
Time wasted and life turned back
Steps forward and steps back
Leans into the light and leans into the black

Dream years of lethargy
And desperate seizes of the day
Outcast and conformists, the happy and the haunted
All coming to their plateaus

Falling and crashing to find errors gleaming by the way
All abandoned to circumstance or so it seems
And so it goes our human nature
Until once again we are akin to our own skin

But then the thoughts fleeting and repeating
And the ways leading onto to ways
And so it goes and goes again
This our human nature.
