This Curse Poem by Matthew Holloway

This Curse

Why did this curse choose me
what made it single me out alone
that I should suffer like this, live like this
feel the breath of the black dog upon my neck
hear the madness in the dark of the night
this dammed curse, addiction sewn in
it came to me so easily and I took it
then hit after hit the dopamine release
now I am ruined, done for, cursed
I am a writer a poet for all it's worth
never to be appreciated or known
never to feel the true beauty I imagine
and witness through these very eyes
please don't be a writer
discourage any who wish to be
for it is a curse to live as such
the ink to the blood a poison known
that which touches the soul
kills it so
